DHCP, aka Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol, is the system that your computer uses to get an IP address on a new network. Whether you’re at a coffee shop or shared office, you don’t know who is running the network.
A very simple thing to do, is to make sure that the name that your computer gives out, isn’t yours!
On a Mac:
Click on the Apple, choose System Preferences
Go to the “Sharing” Preference Pane
Change the “Computer Name” from something like “John Doe’s MacBook Pro” to … “MacBook”
On a PC:
Go to the Start Menu, Right-Click on “Computer” or “My Computer” and choose Properties
On Windows XP, go to the “Computer Name” tab and click the “Change” button.
On Windows Vista/7, click “Change Settings” to the right of where your Computer Name is displayed, then click the “Change Button”
Another good thing to install if you’re on a Mac is DNSCrypt. This will protect anyone from seeing what websites you’re browsing. Even though a website may be HTTPS (Secure), the owner of the network can otherwise see what websites you’re browsing, just not the content. This step is for the more computer savvy only.

Have you ever seen an email like this before? Chances are, yes!
I’m a BMO customer, so first thought when I see the subject line is to click on and see what’s going on. They are going for the scare tactic to get you to click without thinking.
There is a simple method to avoid these hoaxes. Put your mouse over the link, and check the URL that the site is actually going to take you to, in this case, it is http://somimo.fr/montreal/mastercardbmo/
FAKE! However, if you do click on it, it looks EXACTLY like the real BMO website. (View screenshot here)
To be SUPER safe, never click a link in an email to logon to anything. Go to your web browser and go in the way you always do, the result will be the same if the message is legitimate.
