How to Avoid E-Mail Fraud

Screen shot 2011-04-06 at 1.17.47 PMHave you ever seen an email like this before? Chances are, yes!

I’m a BMO customer, so first thought when I see the subject line is to click on and see what’s going on. They are going for the scare tactic to get you to click without thinking.

There is a simple method to avoid these hoaxes. Put your mouse over the link, and check the URL that the site is actually going to take you to, in this case, it is http://somimo.fr/montreal/mastercardbmo/

FAKE! However, if you do click on it, it looks EXACTLY like the real BMO website. (View screenshot here)

To be SUPER safe, never click a link in an email to logon to anything. Go to your web browser and go in the way you always do, the result will be the same if the message is legitimate.
